Colored Pencil Tutorials is your official source for CP Magic and tutorials I publish. I don’t currently offer video classes, live classes via webinar, or any other forms of online workshops. I know many of you are looking for those types of learning experiences, so I’m providing the following list of colored pencil resources.
Lisa Ann Watkins is the artist behind Animal Art by LAW, and her specialty is animals, domestic and wildlife. She offers a variety of workshop opportunities, online tutorials, and videos. I first encountered Lisa’s work through her YouTube channel. If your goal is realistic animal portraits, I encourage you to take a look at the videos she offers, both time lapse, and real time. She also provides full length, real-time video instruction through her Patreon channel.
Ann Kullberg offers an excellent selection of art books and tutorials, as well as the popular magazine, COLOR Magazine. I’ve been a fan of her publications for years and if you can’t find what you’re looking for at Colored Pencil Tutorials, I wholeheartedly suggest you take a look at her store.
But she also offers an ongoing series of “Pajama Classes.” Workshops conducted online through ZOOM. These workshops are just like the in-person workshops Ann has organized for years, but you can participate from the comfort of your own home.
So if live, interactive learning is what you’re looking for, check out the Pajama Class page on Ann’s website.

Bonny Snowdon specializes in animal art. My first introduction to her work was through her YouTube channel and by way of a horse portrait. But she does many types of animals, both domestic and wild. However, if I had to name one thing she teaches exceptionally well, I’d have to choose hair. Her series of YouTube videos focusing on hair include long and short hair, various types of wavy and curly hair, and, of course, different colors. But don’t let that fool you. You can also see how she draws eyes, ears, noses, mouths, tongues and many other things. She teaches through Patreon and YouTube.
John Middick is the artist behind Sharpened Artist. He’s the creator and host of the Sharpened Artist podcast. The podcast airs weekly on Mondays and is heard around the world. The podcast was created to encouragement to fellow artists by sharing tips and techniques for drawing, and interviewing other colored pencil artists. If you need a regular dose of encouragement, the Sharpened Artist podcast is for you.
John also created the Sharpened Artist Academy for serious students. This collection of video courses includes the Beginner’s Colored Pencil Course*, and the popular Face Value course. Master classes and recorded live training classes are also available through the Sharpened Artist Academy*.

Basic Affiliate Information
Many companies offer affiliate programs. The company offers affiliate members a commission when someone follows a link and buys something.
How and Why I Offer Recommendations.
When I recommend products, they are either products I have purchased and found useful or that would be useful to me if I had a need for them.
Some of the books and products I recommend have affiliate programs that pay a commission My decision to recommend books or products is based on the usefulness of the book or product to me, not on whether or not an affiliate program is available.
All recommendations are made in good faith. If you believe my participation in affiliate programs taints my objectivity in making recommendations, you should discount any such recommendations.
As with any recommendation, examine the books or products for yourself to determine whether or not they will help you. I believe what helps me will also be of benefit to others. But not everything works for everyone, so I urge you to practice due diligence in any purchase.
