CP Magic August 2022 is ready and waiting to inspire you!
Patricia Mitchell is the featured artist for August.
Patricia’s art story is unique. She is a fine artist and a decorative artist. She’s also been a tester of art supplies (did you know there was such a thing?) and has owned and operated her own small brick-and-mortar store.
She has used acrylics, oils, watercolors, and colored pencils to draw and paint a variety of subjects. These days, her focus is on watercolor florals and colored pencil portraits.
She also shares a few very “low-key” methods of marketing your work locally and in-person. If you’re interested in a more personal touch with your art marketing, you’ll want to hear about her experiences over the years.
Pat’s tutorial is all colored pencil, but with a decorative art flair. She says you can do the tutorial as she describes it using colored pencil on paper, or you can use acrylics on wood.
If you’re really feeling adventurous, you can combine mediums and put your own, unique twist on the project!
What Else is in the August 2022 Issue of CP Magic!
If you’re thinking about starting a business as a commission artist, Carrie’s article, Before You Accept Your First Commission, is a must read. There’s more to an art business than knowing what you want to draw and how you want to sell it.
Do you enjoy drawing portraits of friends and family and other people? Colors for Skin Tones will help you make good color selections. Carrie also explains why you might not want to discard any color in your collection as a possible skin tone color.
In this month’s Art Corners, artist Shelley Oberholser shares one very handy gadget that helped her make better use of the digital device on which she views reference photos. It also takes up less space and is much more versatile. What is it? Shelley tells you all about it!
Shelley also shares one way to make use of every scrap of drawing paper, even the trimmings left over when you cut paper to size. Her tip is especially helpful if you prefer expensive paper and just hate to throw anything away!
Carrie also reviews the landscape set of Cotman Watercolors from Winsor & Newton and Dick Blick in the Product Review section.
Of course, your favorites are also included: Reader Gallery, Featured Photo, and The Final Pencil Strokes.
